Well, I don’t know a lot about owning a practice. Yet. But I do know this: it’s WORK, y’all.
The sheer amount of paperwork involved is absolutely mind-numbing. And have you heard of decision fatigue? Because it. Is. A. Thing.
My desire to own and run my own veterinary practice has been undeniable for years, and now that it’s finally here . . . well, I can honestly say nothing could have prepared me for what I’m going through right now. It’s an undulating roller coaster of epic proportions and most of the time I have very little clue what I’m doing.
And I couldn’t love it more.
I think what gets me the most is that it’s mine.
Every ugly, poorly painted wall–mine.
Miles of dirty, worn carpet–mine.
9,352,950 re-autoclaved syringes that serve no discernible purpose–mine.
And all the clients who come in with their beloved pets and need care, medication, information, or someone to talk to–mine, mine, mine.
I don’t know a lot yet, including what the future holds. But I know this: it’s gonna be MINE.
